And don\u2019t forget, \u201cwe continue to mail new cards to people who live in Wave 4 states, as well as nationwide to people who are new to Medicare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If your patients are in Wave 1, 2, or 3 states and haven\u2019t received a new card, have them call 1-800-MEDICARE or log onto MyMedicare.gov to determine what the problem is, CMS advises. Other tips for the new Medicare cards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If a patient\u2019s Medicare Beneficiary Identifier number changes \u2014 either at the beneficiary\u2019s request or because the MBI number has been compromised \u2014 you can use the old or new MBI for dates of service up until the effective date of the new MBI, CMS explains. But for \u201cdates of service that are entirely on or after the effective date of the MBI change \u2014 use the new MBI,\u201d the agency instructs in a message to providers.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t get excited about the new square QR codes on Medicare cards. The square codes \u201callow the contractor who prints the cards to ensure the right card goes to the right person with Medicare or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits,\u201d CMS explains. \u201cProviders cannot use it for any other purpose.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cards with the codes on back (Medicare) or front (RRB) \u201care legitimate (official) Medicare cards,\u201d CMS assures providers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercoder.com\/coding-newsletters\/my-homecare-week-alert\/billing-know-the-billing-ins-and-outs-for-new-medicare-cards-158607-article\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Source- SuperCoder<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do you do when an MBI changes?
