PA changes disappoint.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Medicare\u2019s new instructions for drug and DME claims reporting may be less prescriptive than they first appear.<\/p>\n In CR 10573, the\u00a0Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services\u00a0<\/strong>sends Medicare Administrative Contractors the instructions for provisions in its proposed rule that eliminate the requirement to report line-item drug and durable medical equipment charges.<\/p>\n However, hospices calling into CMS\u2019s May 15 Open Door Forum for home care and hospice providers expressed concern that unlike the rule, the CR says \u201cHospices\u00a0shall\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>report a monthly charge total for all drugs \u2026 using revenue code 0250\u201d and \u201chospices\u00a0shall\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>report a monthly charge total for DME \u2026 including DME infusion drugs, using revenue center 029X for the item of DME and 0294 for DME infusion drugs\u201d (emphases added). That language makes the change sound mandatory, when the rule says the change is optional, the caller pointed out.<\/p>\n The \u201cshall\u201d language is an oversight and the switch from per drug to monthly reporting is entirely optional, a CMS official clarified in the forum.<\/p>\n The staffer also allayed fears about DME reporting in the call.
