Some newly announced changes for home health agency cost reports may alter\u00a0<\/strong>how you submit them.<\/p>\n

Transmittal 18, issued by the\u00a0Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services\u00a0<\/strong>last month, updates Chapter 32, Home Health Agency Cost Report, Form CMS-1728-94 to add a checkbox that allows a provider to elect and sign the Certification and Settlement Summary page of the Medicare cost report using an electronic signature, notes the\u00a0National Association for Home Care & Hospice\u00a0<\/strong>in its member newsletter. The change is effective for cost reporting years ending Dec. 31, 2017, and later, CMS says in the transmittal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe signature instructions now specify the cost report must be signed, with an original or electronic signature, by the Chief Financial Officer or Administrator,\u201d adds consulting firm\u00a0Advantage Healthcare Consulting\u00a0<\/strong>in North Salt Lake, Utah. \u201cPreviously, the instructions provided for a signature by an Officer (undefined further) or Administrator,\u201d the firm says in its electronic newsletter.<\/p>\n

Do this:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cHome Health Agencies should check with their cost report preparer to make certain an appropriate individual signs the cost report,\u201d Advantage Healthcare Consulting advises.<\/p>\n

Providers should also stay tuned for more specifics on electronic signature requirements, and for similar instructions for hospice cost reports.<\/p>\n
